Safeguarding the environment, energy conservation and improving cost-effectiveness of building installations are reasons for the insulation of buildings. However the occupants of buildings will need to receive a steady flow of fresh unpolluted air. This will require a balanced air supply and extraction ventilation system that will allow the input fresh air into the building at the same rate that it expends stale air.

Supply & Extract Ventilation systems can become unbalanced over time due to wear and tear of the system components but alterations to a building such as alterations to the build layout and extensions can affect the balance of the air supply.
